BIRTHDAYS

Everybody has a birthday and we try to make sure no one in our group is forgotten on their special day. We get together to celebrate birthdays as often as possible and never miss an opportunity to share good cake. Captain Morgan & Firstmate both celebrated their 80th birthdays with Texas Gulf Coast Trikers at La Brisa in League City.

WEDDINGS & ANNIVERSARIES

Michael Variot and Beatriz Cabrello were married July 4, 2014 at  Harmony Wedding Chapel on I-45 in Houston. They  currently live in Arkansas, where he is working, but plan to return to the Bay Area as soon as he retires.

SLIDESHOW

It was a big surprise to everyone in Texas Gulf Coast Trikers when Walter and Sunshine arrived at the monthly meeting in December 2018 and announced that they  had gotten married Thanksgiving.

Captain Morgan & Firstmate were among the tiny number of couples who get to celebrate the Diamond Anniversary after 60 years of marriage. They were happy to share such a rare occasion with their Texas Gulf Trikers family on March 26, 2018 at La Brisa Mexican Restaurant in League City.

CHRISTMAS

Christmas has always been a fun time for our trike family. We have had two Santas and both were busy visiting kids at various events during every Christmas holiday season. We always have a Christmas  party to close out the old year and bring in the new one.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE

JIM WALDREP

SLIDESHOW

Jim Waldrep became Leader of the Texas Gulf Coast Trikers after Mike Variot aka "Captain Sundance" (who  started the organization) went to work out of town. Jim led the group & also became leader of the Golden Triangle Trikers in Orange Texas. Both groups became Branches of Triadics, which is a new organization started by Jim Sickler, after both chapters dropped out of Brothers of the Third Wheel.

Jim battled mesothelioma for two years & continued to hold meetings & do rides with both groups until he became too ill to participate. After his passing, a Celebration of Life for Jim was held at the Baptist Church in Texas City where his family attended. After the service, the family had a meal at the church & the members from both trike groups broke bread together at Grand Prize Bar-B-Que in Texas City.

Rest in Peace, Jim. You will be missed by all of the members of your Texas Gulf Coast Trikers & Golden Triangle branches of Triadics, along with your large family & many other friends.

SHARON HAGEWOOD

I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It's easy.

Sharon Hagewood IMG_3873.JPG

Sharon loved people and never met a stranger. She and Firstmate called each other "Sister of the Heart" and were friends for over 30 years. Their birthdays were only one day apart and they were born the same year, so they celebrated their birthdays together.

She was married to Tony Hagewood for 54 years when he passed. They lived in California for many years, where they adopted two sons. Sharon was a gifted artist who sold most of her paintings to friends as quickly as they were finished. She discovered a few years ago that some of her paintings had been resold by well-known California art galleries. Tony & Sharon started and operated Anthony Boats for many years before moving back to Texas to take care of her mother. Sharon was the top face-painter at the Texas Renaissance Festival and worked there 28 years.

Tony had been very seriously injured on their motorcycle a few years after they got married and it made Sharon suffer severe anxiety about riding on two wheels. Nevertheless, she got on the trike with Captain Morgan in Panama City Beach and that made her open to the possibility of finding a new life partner with a trike.

Sharon joined TGCT a few months after losing her husband and went with Captain Morgan & Firstmate to all the meetings, meet & greets, parties and other TGCT events for several years. She never owned a trike, but knew she always had a trike seat available to go on any ride with Texas Gulf Coast Trikers. She had just met someone with a trike and was looking forward to riding with him when she passed away in her sleep at home in May 2020.

Several of our members did a ride to her funeral and broke bread with her son's family afterward, which would have pleased her a lot.

Rest In Peace, Sharon You now live in our hearts.

JAHN HUMPHREYS

BTW_Jahn_Karla Humphreys_edited.jpg

Jahn Humphreys was truly one of the good guys. He was a big man with an even bigger heart. He was an advocate for children and playing Santa Claus every year was one of his favorite things to do. He was an attorney who did mediation for many years and offered to handle the legal work for TGCT members pro bono. He represented two of our members free who were wrongly arrested at Mill Creek Park and thrown in jail in Hemphill during a Texas Gulf Coast Trikers weekend camping trip.  Several of his friends were very strongly encouraging him to run for office as a judge and he was considering it.

Sadly, Jahn died from covid-19 in 2021. He will be remembered fondly by members of TGCT and also by a lot of children who will think of him every Christmas as the Santa Claus who gave them a ride on his trike.

RON OSBURN

It was a very sad day for the members of Texas Gulf Coast Trikers to be forced to say goodbye to Ron Osburn, who lost a battle with heart issues. He and Linda attended many meetings and other events with our group and he will be sorely missed. His family is in our prayers and Linda can count on us for support at any time in any way possible.
